Maintenance Technician

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their team in supporting their campus like setting of buildings, structures and devotional sites on 200 acres of beautiful grounds.

We are seeking a talented and reliable individual to join our Maintenance Department. Our ideal candidate will be a jack-of-all trades, with knowledge of carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, masonry, roofing, caulking, and welding.

Essential job tasks will vary day-to-day based on what is the need of attention at the time, but can frequently include skills in the area of carpentry and handling basic repairs on buildings and structures, plumbing knowledge to address leaks and other drainage issues, painting areas that have become old or are chipping and fading, fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries on the property, applying preventative maintenance to the buildings, structures and devotional sites to reduce the risk of future problems and have mechanical ability to perform general maintenance on company vehicles, tools, grounds equipment, etc.

EDUCATION/SKILLS: High School education or equivalent. Technical, vocational, trade school education preferable in the area of general maintenance and carpentry. 2 plus years’ maintenance technician experience in a campus facility environment preferred. This position does require a valid driver’s license.
This individual must show Christian hospitality by example in every aspect of the job. Must have the ability to maintain composure under stress, demonstrate good problem-solving skills while also being open minded to the opinions of others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use a step stool or ladder, use hands to operate power tools, and other general tools associated with a building maintenance environment. Be able to lift up to 50 – 70 pounds, lifting from ground to waist and occasional waist to overhead. This individual should have good motor skills and ability to distinguish different sounds. Position requires up to 8 hours of standing and walking.
