Pray The Sorrowful Mysteries with Fr. Elvis Mwamba, OMI
(Mosaics are from the Rosary Court located at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows)
The Agony in the Garden. In His anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.
(Luke 22:43).
Prayer: I ask, God that You take away the cup of suffering from me (or a loved one in need of a physical healing).
The Scourging at the Pillar. So he released Barabbas for them: and after flogging Jesus, he handed Him over to be crucified.
(Matthew 27:26).
Prayer: God, I call upon You today to rescue me and others I know who are suffering from physical and emotional distress. Deliver us from this anguish and restore peace in our lives. (Note: If you do not personally know anyone in such circumstances, pray for someone about whom you have heard, perhaps people in another country suffering from war, disease, drought, or starvation.)
The Crowning with Thorns.
They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on His head. They put a reed in His right hand. and knelt before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews.”(Matthew 27:28-29)
Prayer: I ask Your forgiveness, Lord, for my sins of prejudice and discrimination. Please heal those I have wounded.
The Carrying of the Cross. So they took Jesus: and carrying the cross by Himself, He went out to what is called The Place of the Skull which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.
(John 19:16-17).
Prayer: God, I want to be Your instrument of healing and hope. Help me to hear Your call. Help me to say “yes”
The Crucifixion. It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified Him. The inscription of the charge against Him read, “The King of the Jews.”
(Matthew 27:33-50)
Prayer: Thank you, God, for sending Your only Son into the world to bear the brunt of sin and conquer it. Thank You, Jesus, for suffering and dying for us sinners.
