“The Sacrifice of Isaac”
Sunday, October 16
1 – 3 pm
Shrine Visitors Center
Presenters: Mark Etling and Maharat Rori Picker Neiss
The sacrifice of Isaac is a central event in Hebrew Scripture to both Jewish and Christian interpretation of God’s covenant with God’s people.
The biblical story of the sacrifice of Isaac by his father Abraham is familiar to many of us, regardless of our faith tradition. The story is rich with ambiguity and meaning. Why would God ask Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son? Is the sacrifice of Isaac a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of Jesus by God the Father?
In this presentation Maharat Rori Picker Neiss and Mark Etling will examine distinctly Jewish and Christian interpretations of this timeless tale.
